State of Business SMS in Mexico 2026: when companies send SMS

At Grupo Tecnophone we analyzed business SMS sending activity on our platform over 12 months, from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026. The result: Friday accounts for 21.1% of weekly sends, one third of daily sends (33.3%) go out between 1:00 p.m. and 4:59 p.m., and the busiest hour is 2:00 p.m., with 9.0%. September 2026 was the most active month of the period.

2026 was the most active month of the period

This is the first release of our study State of Business SMS in Mexico 2026. We only publish indicators we could measure directly; other indicators will be added in future releases once we have verifiable measurements.

What we measured and what we did not

We measured sending activity: on which day and at what time companies send their messages from our platform. The data is aggregated across all clients, does not identify any company or industry, and does not include absolute volumes. Times are in central Mexico time.

This is not a measurement of delivery rate or effectiveness. Nor does it measure “opens”: unlike email, an SMS does not report when it is read. What can be measured for every send is delivery, through delivery reports (DLR), and clicks, through tracking links.

Friday accounts for one in five sends

If sends were spread evenly, each day would get about 14.3% of weekly activity. Friday reaches 21.1%, almost one and a half times the average. It is the day when the most messages leave the platform.

For anyone planning campaigns, this is a starting point: if your message does not need to go out on a Friday, it is worth testing other days and comparing results with tracking links before setting a schedule.

One third of sends go out between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

That four-hour window is one sixth of the day, yet it accounts for 33.3% of sends: twice what an even spread would give it. Within it, 2:00 p.m. is the peak hour, with 9.0% of daily activity, more than twice the hourly average.

Activity includes both scheduled campaigns and messages sent in real time, such as OTP codes generated when a person logs in or confirms a transaction. That is why sending times also reflect when people use companies’ services.

September, the most active month

September 2026 was the most active of the 12 months analyzed. To plan the rest of the year, it pays to review early the dates that usually drive campaigns in Mexico, such as El Buen Fin, the year-end bonus (aguinaldo) and the December holidays.

What to do with this data

  • Test different times. If your campaign is not urgent, schedule sends on different days and times and compare results instead of following habit.
  • Measure delivery and clicks, not just sends. Delivery reports show what arrived, and tracking links show what worked.
  • Plan key dates ahead. The busiest months require templates and contact lists to be ready before the peak.
